Specialty Chemicals Manufacturing Facility, Saykha, Dahej, Gujarat
Bringing Process, Utilities and Infrastructure Together
The design of a specialty chemicals plant involves much more than production equipment. Process units, piping networks, utilities, buildings and infrastructure must work together to create a safe, efficient and well-coordinated industrial facility.
At Saykha, Gujarat, Calibre Chemicals, an Everstone Group company and a leading Indian manufacturer of potassium persulphate, perchlorates and iodine derivatives, developed its largest greenfield production facility. The company serves customers in more than 100 countries.
Spread across 48,000 square metres, the facility brings together two process units, a common utility block and supporting infrastructure. The project required a coordinated engineering approach to integrate these facilities within a single industrial complex.
The scope covered multidisciplinary basic engineering, detailed engineering and procurement assistance for the greenfield plant.
Engineering Two Process Units as One Integrated Plant
The two process units form the core of the manufacturing facility. Each requires suitable equipment arrangements, piping systems, structural support and access for operation and maintenance.
The challenge was to coordinate these requirements across the overall site. Equipment layouts, pipe racks, buildings and connecting systems had to be considered together to achieve an integrated plant arrangement.
Multidisciplinary engineering helped align the various systems and their interfaces. This approach supported consistency between individual engineering deliverables and the overall plant layout.
Integrating Utilities and Plant Infrastructure
A production facility depends on reliable supporting systems as much as it depends on its process units. Common utilities, electrical facilities, access roads and other infrastructure connect the different parts of the plant.
The engineering scope considered these facilities as part of the overall development. Their arrangement and interfaces needed to align with the process units, interconnecting pipe racks and supporting buildings.
The result is a coordinated industrial layout that brings production facilities, common services and site infrastructure together within the available 48,000 sqm plot.
Multidisciplinary Engineering from Design to Construction
Effective specialty chemicals plant engineering requires close coordination between disciplines. Decisions in one area can influence several others, making interface management an important part of the design process.
The project brought together basic engineering, detailed engineering and procurement assistance. The objective was to develop coordinated engineering deliverables that support the development and execution of the overall greenfield facility.
By considering process facilities, utilities and infrastructure as interconnected systems, the engineering approach addressed the wider requirements of the plant rather than treating individual facilities in isolation.
A Completed Greenfield Manufacturing Facility
The Saykha facility has been constructed and commissioned. Its development brings together two process units, common utilities and supporting infrastructure within an integrated industrial campus.
The project demonstrates the importance of coordinated engineering in developing complex specialty chemical manufacturing facilities. From the arrangement of production areas to the integration of common services, each component contributes to the functioning of the overall plant.
